えっと、こちらの質問、まあ、他の文化や、ええ言語に対して、ええあまりにもこう知識が少ないのではないかということなんですけど、ええまっ個人的に私は、あのう日本に本社がある、ええ、アメリカ進出の、まあ子会社といいますか、そういう会社に務めていまして、割とまわりを見、見渡すと、ええ中にはとても日本の文化に対して興味もあり興味も強く、理解しようっていう、あのう気持ちが、をつねひごろもってる人が多い反面、やはりもう日本人なんて全然興味ないと、日系の会社で働いているのにかかわらず、別に日本の文化だとか、ええ食べ物にしても、ええそういうことに全く感心を示さないアメリカ人もいるっていう事実が、私にとってはちょっと驚くべきことといいますか、まあそれは感じてます。で、やはりこれも、ええそうですね、一般的に、別にビジネスマンにかかわらず、こう日常アメリカで生活してまして、例えば子供の学校ですとか、一般的に自分が日常生活の中で接するアメリカ人を見てますと、やはり、その何でしょう、クローズ・マインドっていうわけではないんでしょうけども、まっ、ど、どうなんでしょう、ええそのう、中にはやっぱりそういう他の国の文化言葉にも感心を示さず、アメリカが唯一の国である、アメリカがナンバーワン、そういうような、ええそれ以外のことには興味がないというふうに考えているようなアメリカ人のそういう態度は、ん、ともすればちょっとエラガントといいますか、そういうふうに考えられる、見られる時もあります。

As for this question, about having little knowledge about other cultures and languages, I was personally sent to work for what you might call a branch company in America whose main office is in Japan. When I look around here, while there are many Americans who show a strong interest in and try to understand the Japanese culture, there are those who have no interest in us Japanese at all, and it surprises me but I sense that, though they work in a Japanese branch company, in truth there are Americans who show no admiration at all for the Japanese culture—even Japanese food. And, let me see, hmm, generally, although they are just businessmen, as I go through everyday life in America, for example at my children’s school, if I look at the Americans I come in touch with in my own daily life, in general (what should I say) it’s not that they’re closed minded, but (what’s a good way of putting this) some don’t show any interest in other cultures and languages and act as if America is the only country; as if America is Number One. There are times when some Americans have the kind of attitude that nothing else matters, and they are thought to be or seen as a bit 'arrogant.'
