I once had a teacher who said that Americans always do things in a hurry. He gave me the example that, they (Americans) often eat a big breakfast. Then they go straight to the office and of course drive a car there. After that they work, work, work straight through to noon. Then they only have 15 minutes or half and hour to run downstairs. They have no time to eat anything complicated or time consuming. They just run to the nearest McDonald’s to grab a sandwich or some other fast food to eat. Then they run back to the office as fast as they can and continue their work. I feel that the reason Americans rush around in this way is perhaps because of their culture, and perhaps because they are quite efficient in doing things. Just like with our visit here to UT…the teacher in charge of showing us around always walks very far ahead whenever leading us somewhere. His steps are extremely fast. Those of us at the rear are always holding back a big section of the group. However, he actually does keep us on schedule for every event. So he must get the job done in the small amount of time that he has. He has to reserve the rest of his time for his Ph.D. studies. So I feel that Americans…perhaps you could say that they really do hurry more than we (Chinese) do, but they are also actually a bit efficient than we are too.
