Bien, como le explicaba, en el Perú existen tres regiones naturales, básicamente: la costa, la sierra y la selva. Cada región está representada por un tipo de hombre diferente. Entonces hablar de un país totalmente integrado con una consciencia nacional realmente, en este, digamos en el Perú no es tan así. Por otro lado, evidentemente esta es una sociedad que de alguna manera es un poquito descriminativa. Aquí hablar de "cholito" hasta hace poco tiempo era peyorativo. Y se distinguía muy bien el blanco, el cholo, el mestizo, el negrito y el chino. Hoy tenemos un presidente chino, lo que ya es un avance enorme. Pero definitivamente creo que cualquier tipo de negociación tiene que estar siempre reconociendo que en este país hay diferencias. Y que esas diferencias todavía no se han, no se han, digamos esfumado con el transcurrir del tiempo.

Well, as I was explaining to you, in Peru there are basically three natural regions: the coast, the plains, and the jungle. Each region is represented by a different type of man. So, to speak of a country that is totally united in a national conscience really, well, let's say that it isn't that way in Peru. On the other hand, obviously this is a society that in some ways is a little discriminatory. To speak of a "cholito" here until recently was derogatory and one could easily distinguish between white, cholo (white/indian), mestizo, black and Chinese. Today we have a Chinese president, which is a tremendous advance, but I definitely believe that in any negotiation one has to recognize that in this country there are differences. And these differences still are not, are not, let's say dissipated with the passage of time.
