えっと、ギフトも、ギフトを受け取ってもいいか、いいのはどんな時ですかということですけれども、ギフトはまず日本の場合では、もし、ギフトをそのような時は必ず受け取ると思います。でも、その受け取り方がとっても難しくて、最初、やはりこう躊躇するようなかたちで、「ああ、そんなのは結構です。どうぞお気になさらずに」というふうに、なんとなく受け取らないような態勢になるんですけれども、結局最終的には必ず受け取ります。そして、受け取ったらお返しをするかということですけれども、やはりそのことはよくあります。あのう、お返しをします。ただ、ビジネスの場合は違うかもしれません。ビジネス上では違うかもしれません。でも、一般的な社会の中では、何か受け取ったならば必ずお返しをするというのが日本の習慣です。

Well, whether it is OK to receive a gift and what kind of occasions are OK to receive a gift, as to gifts in Japan, we certainly do receive gifts. But the way we receive a gift is the difficult part. First, we would be hesitant and say, "oh, no thank you for such a thing. Please never mind" and it would look as if we were not going to take the gift. Yet, in the end, we definitely take the gift after all. And, regarding whether we give another gift in return, we often do. We do give in return. However, in the case of business, it can be different. It might be different in business. But, in society in general, it is a Japanese custom to give in return if we receive something.
