Me parece a mí que durante el transcurso de una negociación generalmente va a haber un momento en el que una de las personas que es el que invita o el que inicia la negociación, le invita a la otra persona a tomar un café o de repente le invita a un cigarrillo o como se menciona tal vez lo invite a almorzar. A mí me parece que el hecho de no compartir un gusto como es el de tomar un café o de prender un cigarrillo, no afectaría en ningún caso el propósito de la negociación. Lo que yo sí recomendaría es que al peruano le va a gustar que al menos algo le acepten al momento de que él invite. Por decirles si a uno lo invitan a un café y uno no le gusta tomar café, que le diga, "Gracias por el café pero preferiría tomar un vaso de agua." y yo creo que con eso es más que suficiente.

It seems to me that during the course of negotiation there will generally be a moment when one of the persons who could be the one who started the negotiation, will invite the other person to have coffee or maybe to have a cigarette or as was mentioned here, maybe to go out to lunch. To me it seems that the fact that you don't participate in the pleasure of drinking coffee or in lighting up a cigarette won't affect the negotiation process at all. What I would recommend is to know that Peruvians are going to want that you at least accept something when you are invited. So say to them, when they invite you to drink coffee and you don't like to drink coffee, say to them, "Thanks for the coffee, but I would prefer a glass of water." I believe that this would be more than enough.
