ええ、確かに日本では、いろいろなものを文書にすることを好むと思います。そういう傾向が強いと思います。最近はインターネットですとかコンピュータのEメールですとかっていうのも普及はしていますけれども、だからと言って文書の量が減っているわけではなくて、むしろ文書の量が増えているかもしれません。それは、やはり文書にすることによって、ええ、物事を人に伝達しやすくなったり、あとは、後で言った言わないっていうそういう、そのう、論争と言うんでしょうか、問題を避ける部分もあると思います。私が例えば上司とかに何かを、アイディアを持って行く時も、「できれば何か書いたものにしてくれ」って言われることもありますし、例えば、外部のかたから何かプロジェクトを持ち込まれる時でも、「アイディアは聞きますけれども、やはり何かの文書にしてください」っていうことを、非常に一般的にいたします。ですから、目に見える文書の形にするっていうことは、非常に、私は日本だけじゃなくて他の国でもそうかなと思ったんですけども、日本では非常に重要な部分だと私は思っています。

Well, definitely in Japan, I think we prefer to put various things in writing. I think such tendency is strong. These days, internets or computer e-mails have become popular. Yet, it does not necessarily mean that the amount of writing is decreasing, but rather the amount of writing may be increasing. By putting things in writing, it becomes easier to convey things to others, and it later prevents problems, or what shall I say, arguments about having said something or not. For example, there are times when I am told "put it in writing if possible" when I bring my idea or something like that to my superiors etc. And when an outsider brings in a project we're generally told "we will listen to your ideas, but please put them in writing." Therefore, I think that putting things in a viewable written format is a very important element not only in Japan, but I think it is also the case in other countries.
