あのう、アメリカ人のビジネスマンの中には、二つのタイプがあるような気がします。一つは日本のビジネス、日本でビジネスをやることだけではなくて、日本の言葉とか文化とかに関心を持っている人、日本が好きな人ですね。それからもう一つは、もう日本でビジネスを、ビジネスだけをやりたいと、他のことはあまり関心のない人っていう、二つに分けられると思います。私の経験からしても、そういう二つのタイプがあると思います。で、日本でうまくいく方っていうのは、やはりアメリカ、日本でビジネスをすることだけではなくて、日本の文化に対してすごく関心があったり、言葉に対して関心があったり、日本のことをもっと知りたいっていうそういう、知識だけではなくて関心がある人が、やはり日本では、うまくビジネスができる人ではないか、というふう、私の経験から思います。ですから、ええ、一般的に日本の文化や言葉に関する知識がないということは言えないと思いますけども、あのう、そういう人もいれば、実際に知識や関心を持っている人もいるということで、ええ私としては、ぜひ、知識だけではなくて、日本の文化や言葉に関心を持つ、そういう人と、ビジネスをしたいなというふうに思います。

Well, I feel that there are two types among American businessmen. One is those who not only do business in Japan but also are interested in Japanese language and culture and so on and who like Japan. And the other is those who want to do business in Japan. They only want to do business and are not interested in other things. I think they are divided into two. Based on my experience, I think there are two such types. I think that those who do well in Japan are those who not only do business in the U.S., in Japan, but also who are very interested in Japanese culture. They are very interested in the language and want to know more about Japan. From my own experiences, I think those who not only have knowledge but also have an interest like that, they are those who can do business well. I don't think I can say in general that they do not have knowledge of Japanese culture and language and so on, but while there are people like that, there are those who in fact have knowledge, interest, and so on. Therefore, in my case, I feel that I would rather do business with such people who have not only knowledge but also an interest in Japanese culture etc.
