Türkiye’de yemek için eve davet etmek çok yaygındır. Bu misafirperverliğin bir göstergesidir. Türk insanı bunu göstererek yabancılara karşı her türlü imkanı sunduğunu fark ettirmek ister. Doğulu insanlarla bunu yapmak çok daha kolaydır. Batılılar bu konuda biraz daha çekingendir. Çekingen olmaya gerek yoktur. Aslında bir daveti reddetmek oldukça büyük bir kabalıktır. Bunu reddetmek için mutlak ciddi bir sebep gerekir. Elinde olmayan bir işten ya da başka bir programı olduğundan dolayı bunu ancak geri çevirebilirler. Başka türlü geri çevirme gerçekten bizi rencide eder.

It is very common to invite someone for a meal in Turkey. This is an indication of hospitality. By showing it, the Turkish people want foreigners to recognize that they are offering all kind of facilities. It is easier to do this with the people from the East. The Westerners are a bit shyer about this issue. There is no reason for being shy. Actually, it is a great rudeness to decline an invitation. To decline it, there definitely needs to be a serious reason. They cannot decline it unless they have something out of their control or if they have some other kind of program scheduled. Otherwise, a declination would really offend us.
