ええ、これはかなり個人差があるかなというのが私の個人的な意見です。アジェンダというのは作りますし、それにそって会議なりディスカッションを行おうとするわけですけれども、やはりかなり出席者ですとか議長役やってる人にかかっているかと思います。私のごく身近な最近まで勤めていた会社の例ですと、上の方があまりこう、アジェンダにそってしゃべらないという癖がありまして、私は下っ端としてですね、彼女を傷つけないように、彼女があまりみっともなくないようにしながら、元のトピックに戻すというのはかなり苦労しました。どんどんどんどん横道にそれていって、これだと今日の会議は終わらないなとか、ずいぶん時間がかかってしまうなって思う時に、さりげなく元の道に戻すっていうのが私の重要な役目だったので、まあ個人差に、個人差があるかと思いますけれども、やはりなんとなくこう、アジェンダにはありながらも横道にそれがちなのが、日本、まあアメリカと比べてもあれなんですけれども、日本の傾向かなと思います。

Well, my personal opinion on this is that there are fairly large differences among individuals. We make an agenda and try to hold a meeting or have discussion based on it. Yet I think this depends on the participants or the chairperson. There is a good example from the company where I worked until recently. My superior, well, she had a habit of not following the agenda. So, I, as her underling, made a great effort in returning the topic back to the original without hurting her feelings or without making her look terrible. When her talking diverted more and more and when I felt that the meeting wouldn't end or that it would take a long time, getting her back on track was part of my important role. Well, I think this is an individual difference, but when comparing to Americans (which may be pointless), I think that even with an agenda, getting easily sidetracked is a tendency in Japan.
