Esta pregunta es muy importante. Cuando estuve en Texas estudiando el MBA y recién conocí a algunas personas yo trataba de saludarlas de la misma manera como las saludaba aquí a algunas chicas, ¿no? Intenté darles un beso en la mejilla y no se vio muy bien. Aquí en el Perú en general, cuando saludas a gente de tu edad y es en un ambiente informal, a los muchachos puedes darles la mano y a las chicas un beso en la mejilla. Si es una situación más formal y la gente usualmente es mayor que tú, lo que estila darse es la mano, le das la mano al señor o le das la mano a la señora. Algunas señoras van a acercarse para darte un beso o tú darles un beso en la mejilla y eso es algo que depende más de ellas, no es algo que tú vas a forzar. En general vas a querer darles la mano únicamente. Pero si son chicas que son de tu edad entonces sí las vas a saludar con un beso en la mejilla y no hay ningún problema.

This question is very important. When I was studying my MBA in Texas and having recently met some people I tried to greet them in the same way you greet girls here. I tried to give them a kiss on the cheek and it didn't go over very well. Here in Peru generally when you greet people of your own age and it is an informal situation, you give the guys your hand and the girls a kiss on the cheek. If it is a more formal situation and if they are older than you, what you usually do is extend your hand to them, shaking hands with a man or shaking hands with a woman. Some women will come up to you to give you a kiss or you give them a kiss on the cheek but this is something that depends more on them and it isn't something that you force. Generally you'll just shake their hand. But if they are girls that are your age, then you'll greet them with a kiss on the cheek and there is no problem in this.
